Mixed media on Styrofoam?

A few weeks ago, a few of us at Hobbykunst was discussing the idea of creating some mixed media on a styrofoam medallion. This had to be tested, and here is the result.

The styrofoam medallion was mounted on a wooden stick. The wooden stick was then mounted on a wooden spool.

I used old jewelry parts, metal pieces, beads, metal from Finnabair, and different kind of bling. I used Liquitex heavy gel as glue and let it dry over night.

The medallion was painted black. When the paint had dried, it was painted with white acrylic paint, cobber, and different blue Finnabair paints and different mists. Then I added flowers.

In between the flowers and the mixed media, I mounted a wooden flamingo and a little wooden palm. These are from one of Rayher new wooden sets.

The other side has been decorated in a similar but different way.

The word "Sweet" and "Smile" is from a new wooden text set from Rayher.

Cards with Cherry Tree Lane Collection

Kaisercraft's new collection Cherry Tree Lane, is fantastic for those vintage cards. For these cards I have used Specialty paper Perforated letters (PS476).

There are five cards in total, using the coloured images from the paper as the focal point and the cards, and the other images as layers under this image.

You can get more inspiration for using this collection over in Kaisercraft's blog.

Mixed media layout with the Cherry Tree Lane collection

Kaisercraft is out with a super new collection, the Cherry Tree Lane. I have created a mixed media layout with papers from the collection.

The layout has been created, using lots of layers and 3D tape between the layers to build it up and show the dimensions.

I have used stamps on the background, to create some pattern.  I have also used the template together with rust paste. The dimentional layers can be shown under the "Remember this" quote.

I have also used one of the texts from one of Kaisercraft's sticker sheets, to create some text on the background.

A lot of my layouts are very dimensional, and are therefore mounted in frames or on a canvas. This layout has been mounted on a canvas, that has been mounted in a frame.

Happiness is a Perfect day - A House box

I got inspired by all the doors in this collection, and created a box that looks like a little house. I have used the Ubud Dreams collection together with a designer template to create some extra texture to the little house.

The house box, is built as a simple box, with a roof on the lid.

I have used a stencil with gesso in a few places, to create texture on the walls.

I have also added some moss paint and flowers.

I have added the door and some windows from one of the papers in the collection (Mantra).

I have also added collectables from the collections.

Mixed media with chalk, rust and concrete paste

Hobbykunst has got some really sweet frames in MDF. This is one of the frames, decorated with chalk paint and concrete, together with a hint of rust.

The frame was first painted in light blue chalk paint. Then I added concrete paste. This paste is soft to work with, as thick paint, and easy to spread with a sponge or paintbrush. When the concrete paste dries, it hardens, and it is good for adding other paints, mists or mixed media layers on the top.

The background inside the frame, is a patterned paper from
Prima's collection "French Riviera" -  Journees De Reves et Aventures. This collection is a collection I have used a lot. This was my last paper from all the piles of paper from this collection.

I have created the mixed media picture in layers. I have used Kaisermists on the background paper, and stamped onto the misted paper with background word stamp from Kaisercraft and a ruler stamp from Technique Tuesday - Measure Up. I used Archival ink for the stamping, as it is not water soluble.

Then I have added layers with micro beads, metal, computer parts, painted with rust and copper paint. There are also some copper buttons mixed with Prima and Mathia flowers.
